I have tried using the provided links and following the directions to root my Tab S2 running marshmallow.

Each time I have tried it fails and I have followed the steps listed and rooted many other devices.

My model is the TAb S2 SM-T713. Neither the tar file for the 710 or 715 has worked

Hi, first of all thank you for making use of our Samsung Galaxy Forum.
The provided links will not be supported on Tab S2 SM-T713. Right now we don't have a tutorial to root Tab S2 SM-T713 Marshmallow, don't worry I will update this thread once we publish a dedicated tutorial for your model. In the meantime please try rooting using the KingRoot APK which can be found in the below link.

Do I do that directly from the device or do I have to use Odin?

The methods are different from each other so please follow the tutorials carefully and let me know the result.
