Before proceeding further make sure that your phone is holding at least 80% charge.

If you are sure that you have done the steps exactly like given above, then you have rooted your device. Please confirm it using the root checker app. After rooting you can have full advantage of your phone, by installing titanium backup, greenify etc.
Happy to hear that Bill
recover.img , while the phone still says downloading... did I miss a step or is this when you shut it down?
Did you click "Start"?
After clicking "Start" you have to wait for few min to get the process to get completed.
Can this be done on Linux?
I'm running Zorin 9 Ultimate on a Samsung R730. I prefer using this for new programs as I've got my Windows desktop configured specifically and prefer not to add anything if I can avoid it.
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I really look forward to rooting my device.
Sorry no, this works only with Windows.
No if you are mentioning about sammobile. You can register with free account.
Rooting cannot resolve the issue as it is caused by wrong firmware installation. Please find your correct firmware and install it.
Because my phone has problem with this. When I insert the sim card T-mobile, it is says "Not registered Network".
It does work i tested this root method and it worked perfectly.
Not 100% confirmed.
Yes.
Yes. External SD card.
No.
Yes.
You are not supposed to open the app after installing. Please read the tutorial carefully. I have clearly mentioned about it. Please try the steps one more time. I am not sure it will now work on your phone.

Thank you. :))
Thanks for the response, I was able to open the app after installing. I did try a couple more times after reading this no luck. Is there a way to revert back to the previous firmware? I would love to be able to at least remove all the bloat ware on the phone.
Thanks!
Did you opened the app after installing. If you are sure that everything is done as explained try the steps one more time. If the issue is still there then I am afraid, that it has to do something with a recent firmware update.
thanks for the easy to follow steps. I have made it thru step 12 and have selected the SU file to unzip. Once it starts to extract I see the process on the phone and I also see 3 or 4 commands stating failed. ( It really scrolls to fast for me to read) then automatically reboots back to my pre-rooted state. Can you help?
Make sure that you have copied the file to the root folder of your Sdcard. Then it will show up.
This is not a tutorial to unclock your phone. This is only for rooting it.
to use a diferent Operator for other country besides USA?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks!
Happy to hear that
This method is actually a working one. Please try one more time. But this time install the Samsung USb drivers and also don't forget to enable "USB debugging". And please read the tutorial carefully, so that you don't miss any part as this method is little tricky
My friend, why did you extracted the file. Please just download it then everything will be fine.
In that case download and install the Samsung USB drivers for your phone and reconnect it. Download the drivers from this link; http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-T399DNATMB
My phone is in "USB Debug Mode" and no "Added" Message appears.
PLEASE HELP?
Download and install the supersu to your phone, but don't open it, it's ok even if you don't have a sdcard. Now Download and install the odin to your pc and download twrp file. The twrp file is a "tar" file, please don't extract it keep it on your pc. Please refer the tutorial for the rest of the steps.
worked for my SGH-T399N
Sorry not right now....but may be later..
You are welcome...I am also very happy for you...
Now you are in downloading mode. Now connect your phone with the PC and open Odin and do the rest of the steps.
ODIN MODE in red letters
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-T33N
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
Secure Download: Enabled in blue letters
then it shows the android robot and it shows DOWNLOADING.... .. Do not turn off target!! is it normal
Please read this to enable USB debugging; http://www.samsungsfour.com/tutorials/how-to-enable-usb-debugging-mode-on-samsung-android-phone.html
You need a computer but internet is only needed to download the files.
Sorry my friend...
May be some recent firmware update is blocking the rooting procedure.
I had just done as you said, but the message keeps occurring. I keep repeating every step, but my phone just seems to not want to root.
Please enable usb debugging on your phone and repeat the steps. Uninstall supersu before doing that.
Okay, so I did everything you've said to do, and I removed the battery and all, and when I rebooted it, I checked SuperSU, and it says "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!" Is there any reason why this is happening? Thanks again in advance.
If the process is completed you can shut it down by yourself. After the device is shutdown remove the batteries and reinsert it and switch it back on. After that open SuperSU and wait for the to get installed.
I tried doing the process, and everything went fine, but even after Odin says Pass, and that All threads are completed without fail, my phone still shows the screen where it says "Downloading... Do not turn off target!" I've been sitting here waiting for several minutes, but am I supposed to wait for it to shut down on its own, or am I supposed to shut it down myself? Please, I'm in need of help, since I do not want to hurt my phone...Thanks in advance~
OMG!
Hi...welcome back
Did you opened the SuperSu app before rooting it using the Odin?
until I open SuperSu.(there is no SU binary installed,
and SuperSU cannot install it.This is a problem!)
that what it tells me.your help is appreciated,Tha nks in advance
In that steps once the rooting process is finished you have to remove your device battery and reinstall it and switch back on.
Once you enter in "Download Mode" connect your phone to your PC and use the Odin to flash it. Make sure that you have installed Samsung USb drivers and enabled USB debugging.
Install the USB drivers and enable USB debugging, then repeat the steps.
Deal Julian: you don't have to open the TWRP file directly. First please download it to your PC desktop. Select "save" option rather than selecting "open". Then open "Odin.exe" which you have already downloaded and extracted to your PC desktop and click the "PDA" and select the downloaded TWRP file through Odin. Then click "Start"....
My friend!
Download everything except SuperSu app to your PC.
These are very simple steps, but I can understand, can be hard for some. Don't worry I will help. First of all there is no Odin Mode. Odin is an application used to flash and root samsung android smartphones.
Please follow the below given Steps
1. Download SuperSu app to your phone and install it, but don't open it
2. Download Odin and install it on your PC (extract if it's zipped)
3. Download the TWRP file to your PC
4. Now enter your phone in "Download Mode" and connect it to your PC.
4. Next Open Odin on your PC and click "PDA" and select the downloaded TWRP file. Now click start, that'ts it the rooting will be completed. Now restart your phone and open "SuperSU" app.
Hope this helps.
.
Just flash it with any stock ROM.
Did you did all the steps explained above.....Ok in this case manually shut it down and restart it...If it's now booting up try this http://www.samsungsfour.com/tutorials/how-to-resolve-android-boot-loop.html
Did you downloaded the TWRP file from this link?
https://mega.co.nz/#!8cgDyZKR!D5kU6pwl2cSsNSofCQFmcZKNOcNY5Y63jNfnRulXIQ8
Please read the tutorial carefully.
Once downloaded open Odin and click "PDA" button and select the downloaded TWRP file.
