How To Root Samsung Galaxy Light SGH-T399 T-Mobile?

This tutorial will help you to root your Samsung Galaxy Light SGH-T399 T-Mobile in easy steps. Before proceeding further please make sure that you have made a backup of all your Galaxy Light personal files including contacts, photos etc.

Please note that rooting will void your Samsung Galaxy Light warranty (you can always reinstate warranty by unrooting the device) so kindly proceed at your own risk. SamsungSFour.Com will not be liable for any damage caused as a result of the below given tutorials.

Before proceeding further make sure that your phone is holding at least 80% charge.

Steps To Root Your T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Light SGH-T399

1. First you need to download the SuperSU from ChainFire

2. Once downloaded please copy it on to the Samsung Galaxy Light SGH-T399 SD card. Make sure that you don't open the app once installed.

3. Now enable "USB Debugging Mode" and shut down your Galaxy Light.

4. Once the device is in the power down state switch it back your Galaxy Light into "Download Mode". To enter the device in "Download Mode" press and hold "Volume Down+Home+Power" buttons until you see the below screen.

Uh, is it safe to restart the process? I followed the steps and it seemed to be working until I realized that i didn't put the zip file in the card; i put the contents of the file into a normal code :-| . If so, is there anything i need to do to "reset" the process?

It worked flawlessly, I decided to do it from my internal phone memory and it worked with no problem.

If you are sure that you have done the steps exactly like given above, then you have rooted your device. Please confirm it using the root checker app. After rooting you can have full advantage of your phone, by installing titanium backup, greenify etc.

Thanks so much! I had an easy time rooting my phone; I actually did it while waiting for my friend to do her hair. It is worth noting, however, that if you have your sd card encrypted, you'll need to decrypt it before trying to access the file. Other than that, I didn't run into a single problem. Thanks again!

I can't begin to thank you enough and tell you how you have made my day, week, month, year!!! I followed, that is, I FOLLOWED all the instructions as you had them laid out and Voila, my sgh-T399N is now rooted! All I can say to anybody considering this is to take a deep breath, read the instructions thoroughly, and don't panic if things don't seem to be working right away, they probably are. Total time to root my phone was less then 10 mins. Thanks again! :D :D :D

This looks like a great tutorial. I've rooted a few phones (starting with the originial Motorola Droid) on Windows and feel confident that I'll be able to with this tutorial. My question is this:
Can this be done on Linux?
I'm running Zorin 9 Ultimate on a Samsung R730. I prefer using this for new programs as I've got my Windows desktop configured specifically and prefer not to add anything if I can avoid it.

Thank you so much for the tutorial! I really look forward to rooting my device.

after root the galaxy light, can it solve the problem "Not registered Network"?
Because my phone has problem with this. When I insert the sim card T-mobile, it is says "Not registered Network".

Rooting cannot resolve the issue as it is caused by wrong firmware installation. Please find your correct firmware and install it.

Hi,
thanks for the easy to follow steps. I have made it thru step 12 and have selected the SU file to unzip. Once it starts to extract I see the process on the phone and I also see 3 or 4 commands stating failed. ( It really scrolls to fast for me to read) then automatically reboots back to my pre-rooted state. Can you help?

Did you opened the app after installing. If you are sure that everything is done as explained try the steps one more time. If the issue is still there then I am afraid, that it has to do something with a recent firmware update.

Thanks for the response, I was able to open the app after installing. I did try a couple more times after reading this no luck. Is there a way to revert back to the previous firmware? I would love to be able to at least remove all the bloat ware on the phone.

Thanks!

You are not supposed to open the app after installing. Please read the tutorial carefully. I have clearly mentioned about it. Please try the steps one more time. I am not sure it will now work on your phone. :-x

Ok I've done this 3 times, luckily no brick but I still don't have root access. Everything goes as planned until I restart phone and select load SuperSU v2.4. I get a couple failures in the list something like "E: Failed to verify whole file signature" and "E: Signature verification failed". And then it reboots automatically and no root. Am I doing something wrong to get that warning? And BTW, thanks for the best how to I have come across, this is the first time I have felt comfortable with the instructions to actually try it, just wish it worked.

This method is actually a working one. Please try one more time. But this time install the Samsung USb drivers and also don't forget to enable "USB debugging". And please read the tutorial carefully, so that you don't miss any part as this method is little tricky :-)

One more thing I tried to use a com file instead and it went to the phone ok. But I'm not rooted yet and I can't figure out why. Also if anyone knows of a good rom that is compatible with the samsung galaxy light tmobile then please let me know for when I do finally get it rooted

Download and install the supersu to your phone, but don't open it, it's ok even if you don't have a sdcard. Now Download and install the odin to your pc and download twrp file. Okay, so I did everything you've said to do, and I removed the battery and all, and when I rebooted it, I checked SuperSU, and it says "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!" Is there any reason why this is happening? Thanks again in advance.

Please enable usb debugging on your phone and repeat the steps. Uninstall supersu before doing that.

I had just done as you said, but the message keeps occurring. I keep repeating every step, but my phone just seems to not want to root.

May be some recent firmware update is blocking the rooting procedure.

Hello, I came in need of some help,

I tried doing the process, and everything went fine, but even after Odin says Pass, and that All threads are completed without fail, my phone still shows the screen where it says "Downloading... Do not turn off target!" I've been sitting here waiting for several minutes, but am I supposed to wait for it to shut down on its own, or am I supposed to shut it down myself? Please, I'm in need of help, since I do not want to hurt my phone...Thanks in advance~

If the process is completed you can shut it down by yourself. After the device is shutdown remove the batteries and reinsert it and switch it back on. After that open SuperSU and wait for the to get installed.

I do not get what you mean on step 10. Can you go more throughly on it?

In that steps once the rooting process is finished you have to remove your device battery and reinstall it and switch back on.

Hi, i am stuck on the first square, It is not continuing, am i done and just reboot my galaxy light?

Once you enter in "Download Mode" connect your phone to your PC and use the Odin to flash it. Make sure that you have installed Samsung USb drivers and enabled USB debugging.

L as st time, everytime I download the twrp file it says how would u like to open it what do I put

Deal Julian: you don't have to open the TWRP file directly. First please download it to your PC desktop. Select "save" option rather than selecting "open". Then open "Odin.exe" which you have already downloaded and extracted to your PC desktop and click the "PDA" and select the downloaded TWRP file through Odin. Then click "Start"....

My friend! :-) ....I don't know why you are still confused. Please read my previous reply carefully, everything is there and download the files from this link; http://www.samsungsfour.com/downloads/downloads-for-rooting-samsung-galaxy-light-sgh-t399-t-mobile.html (this link is already in the tutorial).
Download everything except SuperSu app to your PC.

Soo when it is on odin mode then what. Tell me the steps slowely as possible. Am I supposed to download odin while my phone is on odin sleep
.

These are very simple steps, but I can understand, can be hard for some. Don't worry I will help. First of all there is no Odin Mode. Odin is an application used to flash and root samsung android smartphones.
Please follow the below given Steps
1. Download SuperSu app to your phone and install it, but don't open it
2. Download Odin and install it on your PC (extract if it's zipped)
3. Download the TWRP file to your PC
4. Now enter your phone in "Download Mode" and connect it to your PC.
4. Next Open Odin on your PC and click "PDA" and select the downloaded TWRP file. Now click start, that'ts it the rooting will be completed. Now restart your phone and open "SuperSU" app.
Hope this helps. :-)
